Dozens of adults crowded the beach
Who was the girl out there alone?
How did she get there?
Why wasn’t she at home?

Questions seemed to fill their head
As water filled my mouth
I was barely moving
I was drifting towards the south

You came running from the balcony
“That girl out there is mine”
But instead of jumping in to save me
You took another swig of wine

I was drowning in a sea of water
You were blinded by your blood shut eyes
You swallowed another mouth full
Before you heard my cries

I was crying out for help
But it wasn’t you that heard
It was some stranger i barely knew
Some guy who kept his word

He pulled me to the beach
Left by body on the sand
“She’s all yours mate”
He stood and shook your hand

He turned and walked away
He drifted from my sight
I knew that from this very moment
He’d changed my life tonight

The sea was pulling me under
And i couldn’t stay afloat
But a stranger threw me a lifeline
And became my rescue boat
