The sound of your voice lets me know that you're smiling, as you whisper sweet words through the phone. It's way too late, bordering on sunrise, so you keep your voice soft and low. You laugh quietly, and tell me to sleep, you say it's so late it's actually early. I smile and say we'll watch the sun come up, and you say go ahead, you'll just watch me. The beat of your heart under my cheek, as I lay my head on the warmth of your chest. Thumps out a rhythm that says it beats for me, and quietly puts all my fears to rest. I feel your arms pull me a little bit closer, feel your lips brush the top of my head. We slowly fall asleep in this place that we share, where the stars make a blanket, and the earth makes a bed. The feel of your hand as it clasps mine so tight, the race of your pulse pressed to my palm. We hold our breath and wait for the news, We want to fall apart but we keep going strong. I feel your thinly veiled panic and fear, so I squeeze your hand and catch your eye. I mouth the words, "I love you, you know." You smile and face the world with me at your side. With every sensation that you make me feel, from burning worry to consuming love. You just add another layer of devotion, another word whispered, another moment to dream of. When you smile and call me angel, every time you say, "I love you, too." My heart skipping a beat, my breath disappearing, they're all just more of the sensations of you. ~I love you, Peter! I SPEAK my mind because it HURTS to bite my tongue. |
