Not Quite a Happy Story

All my life I’ve seen the movies of romance
And read the books of love stories
However, dear, ours is my favorite tall of all
Like Romeo and his dear Juliet, with a different sad ending

A modern story of sacrifice and understanding
A once upon a time that my children will ask for again and again
Though, they’ll never know the truth of it all
The story was of me and of course you as well

We have been one of those books that would have saddened me
For ours isn’t my favorite happy ending
Such a lovely, sad thing that we are my dear
I know I seem to have all the reasons and supposed answers

It’s real life, this thing we’re living in
The consequences are all ours to take at any moment
I had always hoped my own story would be happy
It has been, just not the way I had wished

Sometimes, when I dream of you, I wonder
What would happen if things were different?
But things are how they are and I found out’
That your words mean more that anything
Because dear,
I love you too.

"I thought I'd just mention in passing . . . I always wanted a Sparkly of my very own." -Jeremy The Crow
