So Many Thoughts

This is a poem that I wrote a while ago, after I split with my boyfriend...Not one of my best but I thought I'd post it anyway...

I look down at my feet,
Oblivious to my surroundings,
Remembering what we once had.
People look at me,
Wondering what they can do to help,
But there is nothing,
Nothing that can heal this pain, but time.

You were the first to say you loved me,
The first that really cared,
There is a feeling of no other,
Nothing in this universe could match that feeling.
The rush, the excitement,
The immense feeling of euphoria,
It’s amazing how something so diminutive could make me feel…
So special.
You were also the first to break my naive little heart…

I loved you too, with all my heart,
I would have done anything to help you,
When you were at your worst all I wanted to do was to hold you,
Let you know that I cared,
I also wanted you to hold me,
Let me know that you cared,
But did you really?
Did you really love me?
Is it possible to hurt someone as much as you did me, if you truly loved them?

I think of you every minute of every day,
I can’t erase you from any of my thoughts,
You’re stuck there like an old piece of gum on an old grotty pavement;
Once there – impossible to remove.
I can’t think straight anymore,
So many thoughts running round my head – mainly of you,
So many tears have been wiped away,
With so many more waiting to be shed.

I try to hold back these tears,
I try not to think, but everything reminds me of you,
All I know for sure is that I’ll never forget about you my love,
Part of you will always be with me,
Even when you’ve forgot all about me…
