I made trees out of stones there at our cove
and you climbed over them with bare feet on
I heard you swallow words you didn't use much
but I didn't really care where they ended up

there was a pepto bismo sunset spilling down
and you said the pink place sky was like your tan
missing in places I could only imagine
but if I was curious enough you would stay over

to teach my hands how to turn your poetry
into just a woman with love in her eyes
and I could pen pottery while you slept
and have time to cure it in your whispers after

then glaze it in the residue of your smile
before we pressed it between our rib caves
and let our fire turn flesh tones into iron
not the brittle kind, but pliable and content

bathed in the dawn moisture like porcelain gods

Love that smooth side of the dark...
not to mention the way you spin it.

It is your curiosity that makes you a master ... in poetry and pottery and everything else you touch with your blessed fingers.
