I can hear the turnover of the history,
I can hear crackling of machine guns,
I can hear barking of mortars,
I can hear the resentment of men
and the whistling of bombs,
I can hear emotions of the peoples,
I can hear the hatred of artillery,
I can hear courage of Youth,
I can hear confusion of hearts.

I can hear shouts on the beach,
I can hear fear in glances,
I can hear thoughts of infantrymen,
I can hear dreams of generals,
I can hear swarms of soldiers
getting up, crawling, hiding, jumping
falling, shouting, staggering, muttering,
hoping, praying, succumbing, rebelling,

I can hear lightings of flamethrowers,
I can hear everything by walking
on the beach of Omaha, everything
except the sound of the sea
which share the steps of my parents,
born before 1944.

Yann,

This is a very good remembrance of D-Day.  Being an old coot, with a good memory, I remember a lot from WW II.

ā€œDā€ Day is the day civilization was saved.  How soon people forget.

Bobby
