  The Sound of Night

Dusk drew her mark around the harbor
with the sound of a band down-wind,
hot and filled with drum of blues
it pulsed down the path where boats drew down,
lapped and quietly stilled.

I was drawn toward the pulse of evening
and light in a patio
where a German Shepherd waited
at the door to a tiny bar and dance floor,
music satiated.

Inside the rhythm of bodies swayed
as dancers felt the blues,
the blues, the blues so torched
my casual eyes drew pictures of another sort.

I sat and watched the day die down
out the opening of the sultry door
where the guitar played with a voice
begging me to stay and sway.

When the set was done
and somber silence filled
the men who had been dancing
I suddenly saw Nam
as they quieted with memory and gin.

They stood in silhouette against the stage
hand to heart as the band played
and their voices rose in song,
The National Anthem so strummed and sung
tears were in the words I heard.

Dusk drew her mark around the harbor
where water lapped a reverent goodbye
and tears were in my eyes.

Well I can't imagine how you can make anything you wrote better, but this was glorious.  The images were vivid Martie.

Carpe' Diem,

Yes beautiful.  The online Guardian Poetry Workshop theme for this month is "night" - you might think about submitting this.

This is beautiful, Sissie. Only you
could pull such tender reminisce from
the night skies...

This is an incredible write and I saw every image of every word. You are an amazing poet and I so enjoy reading your poems despite not commenting very often.

Thank you for this.  ooxx  Marti

You captivate the most gentle sighs, and create such a vivid picture.
Only you can write such a bittersweet beauty and stir the feelings that run deep.

Always a pleasure, Martie~

Dear Martie,
your sound of night has mingled with mine, through the emotions your spectacular words conveyed.

There are certain tunes, like a National Anthem, that can't be listened to in the hour of sunset without bringing tears ...

Wonderful work!

Love,
Margherita

How do we empathize? I don't know. Once: Paint It Black' was just a great, Stones, song to me, but it moved on.

Martie - good to read your writing again. And I must say it as well done as ever. When you wrote of the blues and that guitar, it just touched me...

I could see all that you wrote in my mind. Quite a fantastic write and I loved it.
