I was a young teenager during World War Two my two brothers were in the service, one in the Army, one in the Navy, both in the south Pacific. I wrote a number of poems at that time and I would like to enter them here now.

                THE LAND OF PEACE
                   By Billie age 16

I rode today to the canyon
In the west where skies are blue.
I tramped in the hills of pinion
Where the silver streems run through.

I passed by fields of clover
The hum of bees I heard.
Saw a boy with his dog, Rover
As free as the wild blue bird.

The peace of this wonderful country
Is more that I can explain.
It's been going on for centuries
Like the brush on the open plain.

When war clouds gather across the sea
And fire comes down like rain.
We appreciate the peace we have
Away from the suffer and pain.

Our boys have gone to fight over there,
In a land that is hard and cold.
It is nice to live in a land so fair
Where hearts are free and bold.

Good write and for something to be thankful.

This poem is just as realivant today as then.
I hope we can remain free in a country that is very rapidly changing.

That was some fine writing from a thoughtful teen experiencing WWII. It is still a fine thought in these times.
