                 TIME, LOOKING BACK
                      By Billie Cullimore

There was a time not long ago
When I was a pretty young thing.
I laughed and danced as young girls do.
Oh! Yes, I could even sing.

            Looking back on life itself,
             It seems just yesterday.
And yet each day has left its mark.
                To ponder on today.

I remember my first day at school,
               Excited, yet afraid.
Pretty new dress, brand new shoes.
              Hair done up in braids.

           School days all seemed endless.
               Lessons were a bore.
I could'nt wait to end it.
             Let my imagination sore.

           My wedding day was special.
              Excited, yet afraid.
The love we shared would last we knew,
To take us to our grave.

The children brought love with them.
              Worry, death and pain.
Without Gods help to guide me.
I could not have stood the strain.

Each child had a special place,
               In my heart and hand.
To watch them grow to find their place.
               In the promised land.

             I gather up the memories.
And hold them in my heart.
             Each hour, day and year
              Will always be a part.

            The laughter and the silly,
The hard times and the sad.
           The blessings and forgiving.
Oh! no, it wasn't all so bad.

I turn to look in the mirror today.
            Thats hanging on the wall.
I don't see that pritty young thing.
She's some where down the hall.

This is a lovely poem spanning love and life through many years. (Could be a copy of my own, hehe). Beauty is not skin deep and yours shows through your beautiful words.  A precious treasure of a poem to be read again and again.

Somewhere "the pretty young thing" still dances and no doubt every new day brings its own gift. To be aware of this like you is ever so important.

Beautiful reflections, dear Billie, and well crafted.

Love,
Margherita

Thanks to all of you for reading my work.

Just a note.
I have six children, four boys and two girls. My childrens father was killed in an auto accident by a drunk driver when my baby was just four years old.  I thank God every day for the love and carring of friends and family.  Thanks again to all for the kind words.

Love to all  Billie C.

Billie, my heart ~ and my admiration ~ go out to you. Having lost your husband and then having six children to raise on your own, takes a woman of character, inner strength,  fortitude ~ and a very loving nature. God bless you! ~ and your family!

With love,
Linda

Billie - your poetry to me is very warmly written and soft. Perhaps this one is so real, as when I look back. Damn, where did the time go to I ponder...

The passing of time may change the outside, but cannot change how we feel. Think about this, ‘how old would you be, if you didn’t know how old you are?’

Thanks,
Melton
