The Fireman’s Son

Timmy turned six when the sad men came.
They looked at Timmy with pity in their eyes.
He stared at their gold buttons, so shiny and bright;
tried to push away his feelings of fright.
Mom screamed his daddy’s name.
Hysterically she cried.
Someone told Timmy “your daddy has died”.
Lots of men brought tales of a gallant man.
How he saved a family from a burning inferno.
Timmy began to dream of his dad fighting a dragon.
The dragon looked so vicious and mad.
When his father would win the dragon breathed fire;
ashes remained where his father had been.
Timmy tried to run as he slept in bed;
scared of becoming dead like his dad.
He awoke with a start, heart pounding in the night.
He had wet himself; he shivered with fright.
Timmy cried hot, bitter tears.
Dad – I needed you all these years.
He changed the sheets before mom could see;
she wouldn’t know he was a sissy.
He’d show her how brave he’d become;
just like dad; a fireman he’d be.
Timmy read a book about Sir Galahad.
He pictured him to be just like his dad;
to the rescue of maidens in need;
riding in on his trusty steed.
True to his word Timmy became,
one of the finest; the fighters of flame.
His father’s shoes were his to fill;
just he and the dragon; kill or be killed.
One sultry day fire broke out.
Timmy heard a desperate shout;
“my baby’s in there”; a mother’s wail.
Timmy knew he could not fail.
He stood so fierce, he stood so proud.
He stood there ‘til the baby was out.
A hero; he stood tall;
until he could  stand no more.
The wall of fire blew past with a roar;
knocked Timmy right to the floor.
He knew, then, his time was near.
Let death come; of it he had no fear.
The dragon which had caused such pain,
had been conquered; had been slain.
With pomp and honor he was laid to rest.
He had fulfilled his ultimate quest.

Yo Collins613,

This is a very good write.

Your Timmy had the right idea, never be afraid of death.

It's good to see someone from the Big Apple, one of my favorite places.

Bobby
