standing on a shadow's lace

Render

I dined on glass words
whispers carelessly dropped
sharpened syllables jagged
and choked them down with pride
was this to be the ribbon cutting
demise of dreams gone wrong
I gasped for heated tear stained air
as if to quickly unzip my skin to
separate my bones from my heart
my enemies laugh at wind in their favor
yet, they underestimated me
I am the foundation of earth
born and bred of its elements
a river rages within me
and the fire tone of my hair burns
brightly and settles in my veins
tears mournfully fall from broken clouds
and in that dirt you thought ashes lay
grows an underground garden of life
you have made a mockery of truth
and now no cover shall hide you
or depths too deep for destruction
I have sat silently waiting
and watching and find that
my abandonment will soon be
your own

"I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad."
— Joni Mitchell

Talk about riveting intense poetry!
You are the proverbial ROCK, lady, and I mean that in a totally positive sense!
Your words carry great passion and resolve, fortitude and determination.

I'm going to have to start reminding myself to take a breath before I read one of your poems... for I forget to breathe as I read.

Bravo!!! *S*

1slick_lady - you're an artist, and at times your writings are intense, as this one is...
