The hood looks to be
a little dreary,
and always has.

If you’re not used to it,
the hood can be intimidating.

Bones and the gang
sitting on the settlement house steps
aren’t about to attack.

Non-the-less,
people new in the hood,
or just visiting,
always seem to walk
in the center of the street,
and keep an eye out
for the settlement house kids.

It’s insulting,
but there’s nothing
Bones and the gang
can do about it.

Bobby

Sometimes we fear what we are unfamiliar with.  I am sure Bones and his gang would be apprehensive in my neck of the woods too.

Thanks dear Alison,

I'm sure you are right.  You've got bears and stuff in your hood--right?

It still always made me feel bad when people did that.  They'd risk getting hit by a car rather than walking on the sidewalk like they should.  It always made me want to scare, or rob them.  We'd just shake our heads and ignore them as best we could.

I only felt threatened when the whole group eyes me.  then I veer away.  Basically when I am eyed by poeple I don't know make me uncomfortable.

Thanks dear Juju,

In truth, we didn't eye anyone, and I'm sure you would not have felt threatened or uncomfortable.

The problem was our neighborhood had a very bad reputation.

When I lived there, we were the only neighborhood in the city where you couldn't get a doctor to visit you.  That was in the days when doctors made house calls.

If you got really sick, someone would call the police, and they would come and take you to the hospital.

Love Bobby
