Behind blacks mountains, far from the religious houses the Great Salt Lake prays. There we thought of ourselselves and shared our silences as a small white restaurant, the roof covered with gulls, amazing clouds and wanderers. We dipped then took showers to clear our salt and our sins. We left saying goodbye, but the lake didn’t answer, rude and uncivilized. |

Hi yann, Would you believe, I have never seen Salt Lake City either but I have heard the story of how the sea gulls ate the locusts and saved the Mormon crops when they first settled there. Ida |

The Great Salt Lake, (which Salt Lake City is named after) is the largest inland salty body of water in The Western Hemisphere. Next to the Great lakes, is is one of the only lakes clearly visable and identifiable from space. Great Salt Lake averages approximately 75 miles long by 35 miles wide at a surface elevation of about 4,200 feet. At this elevation, the lake covers an area of 1,034,000 acres, and has a maximum depth of about 33 feet. The lake contains 11 recognized islands, In historical time, the lake's salinity has ranged from a little less than 5 percent, (just above that of sea water), to nearly 27 percent (beyond which water cannot hold more salt). That's why you bob like a cork. Oh, and it only converts the realy bad sinners,(so I've heard, if you sink, your sunk) so your OK. Enjoy your adventures. Tracey. |
