The silent hour, when all is calm,
Ensconced in womb of midnight's balm,
When mothers dream and fathers snore,
Whil'st faeries dance 'cross childrens' floor,
Taking children by their hands,
To carry them to distant lands,
Out bedroom windows to night's sky,
Faeries and small children fly,
Faster than the speed of light,
Children travel through the night
Until they reach the edge of ever,
Just this side the land of never,
Laughing, singing, all the way,
Boys and girls and faeries play,
Then in the east a distant glow,
Faeries know it's time to go,
Faster than the wink of eye,
Boys and girls and faeries fly,
Back through windows to warm beds,
Boys and girls lay down their heads,
Fast asleep as parents rise,
To greet soft glow of eastern skies,
Faeries flee into the dawn,
The silent hour is now begone.

Tim, this is really excellent! You paint an excellent canvas of that world that exists between sleeping and waking, which far surpasses the one we live in. May it's doors always be open to us....very nice work.

this was easy to read...aloud...a story with tinges of memories... of fairy tales and bed-time stories, of Tinkerbells and pirates too, of young imaginations and flying lads, who only come out to play when eyelids close...well done (you captured its essence remarkably well)
