I wake with music in my head
when I sleep deep REM
(I like New York in June...)
it must be musicals I dream
and I play the ingenue
(How 'bout you?)
wearing well-starched linens that
are pleated to sway when I swoon
with my stiletto lashes spiked
I dance the steps of some brownstone
(I like a Gershwin tune)
as an "extra" shakes her head
watering a flower box
and not one single flower's dead
the man I'm with is dancing too
he just danced right up the steps
to pick a flower as he crooned
"How about youuuuuu?"
The woman frowned and slapped his hand
then smiled forgiveness as we danced
down the street of happiness
cleaner than it really is...
there's always someone sweeping it
and he's always smiling too.
I wake and make my coffee and
I ponder this phenomenon.
New York was supposed to be
the apple that was meant for me--
blazing Dottie Parker trails
creating the next latest thing...
(I love a fireside, when a storm is due.)

and that's the line that made me wake;
to the bathroom I soft-shoe.
I search for wishes then I flush
as I hum that Gershwin tune
I dash to plump my pillows up
wondering if therein resides
a theater of empty seats
that was built for only me?

I shrug and write my poetry
and drink my coffee
tap tapping
humming tunes of flickering

my dreams--I sing so prettily

*ahem*

*chuckle*

And I thought that was the "hummer" smilie!

Thanks Rose--now why did I call you Rose?

It's one of my favorite names though.

But forgive me and I thank you--I'm actually still half-asleep.

you should go on tour!  (if the soaps can do soap opera mania, think how many would welcome musicalmania or Gershwinmania)  You brought smiles and pleasant memories of bygone days and pleasing plays...of song and dance of celluloid romance...of hoofers and crooners...of the good ole days...loved the reading of this...and still smiling...

When I sleep deep REM, I'm usually losing my religion(but I never had much of that to lose)
You bounced like  flubber through the Big Apple, but that old fireside sounds more appealing to me(maybe, no definitely, I'm getting old)
An absolute treat to read...claps.

oh

wow

I love you guys and dolls.

Anything can happen in New York.

It's been a while since I've danced, and I've never seen a brown-stone except in the movies.  But if I could dream it, yes, I would!  Just for the sake of being light footed and to know what is is to be featherweight blithe spirit.

I can definitely see you in those stiletto lashes.  Cut a rug, girl!
