I followed the thin black line
like a magnetic promise
that tugged on the small bits of steel
left in my eyes from battles
with razor tongue women
in stiletto heels.
I followed it from the parking lot
into the grocery isles
and watched as it ran down her leg
and disappeared
into her take-me-home pumps.
When she turned around
I put my safety glasses on-
opposites attract
and I was ready for the next battle.

Hose with the lines up the back don't last long in this house.
