You gave to me birth
tender love precious time,
from your cup did I drink
then the struggle was mine.

First I crawled then I walked
and in rage turned and ran,
with the dreams of a child
tightly held in my hand,

but I stumbled and fell
and I wished I were home-
though I knew in my heart
I must do this alone.

When I rose to my feet
many years had gone past
and with pride in my voice say
"I've made it at last."

Please be proud of me Mom
where I go    what I do
all the good things in me
are reflections of you.

Yo Critical mass,

Yes, that's the way it is for many of us.  My mother raised me too.  You did good work on this poem.

probably the most honest, most loving tribute a mother and child can share.

Thank you all for you replies. I wrote this 18 years ago. This one means a lot to me. I wrote it on the way to my mothers funeral.

Some how I knew she was gone. But you will hold her forever within your heart. We see things differently as we grow older. And become more lenient in our judgements. latearrival

CM that is a very heart touching tender poem that was a delight to read. very well written and I'm sure your Mum will be

delighted. It is a wonderful time when we realize that we have really grown up and look at things in an adult way, and

hopefully leave all those crazy youthful years behind us. Much enjoyed.

Very nice...a child wants a parents acceptance and assurances...this becomes the foundation they are built upon...James

Any mom's heart would LOVE to hear this.
I believe she's with you and she knows.

smile...y'can't say goodbye to what is an integral part of you, lovie.

You made me think. I pray that the reason I feel like such a crummy person is that I gave away the best parts of me to my own two kids.

One can only hope...eh?

Very touching.

We lost my Mother in Law just last summer, She was a very special woman, mother, grandma and Mother-in-law.

She inspired many of my poems posted here.

Very nice to see works from younger years.

Well done,  Tracey.
