Sometime I wish my memories
Would simply fade away.
Then life would be much easier,
Just living day by day.

No hopes for something better-
Nor sighs of deep regret.
Nor dreams of romance waiting…
With some one you’ve never met.

No thoughts of strength now faded-
Or the days I used to ride…
Or disgust with being jaded,
Or bitter taste of swallowed pride;

I’d forget the western deserts-
That once held my heart enthralled.
And the names of friends long buried-
And my family most of all.

But alas like scars and wrinkles-
Memories likewise scar the page…
Of our body, soul, and spirit-
More especially as we age.

This made me think of home..back in El Paso on cool nights staring at the sky and the smell of rain (or dust in my eyes, depends, lol)

I really loved this, thanks for posting it.

I am glad that your memories remain with you - because they are what you write of.  I like your poetry a lot - would buy the book if I knew there were one.
