Bones and Griselda are just
two little Philly street kids.

They know where to go
at night to be romantic.

They walk down Columbia Avenue,
down to Penn Treaty Park.

They sit near the old Charter Elm,
where William Penn
made his iron-clad treaty
with the Indians,
a treaty that was never broken.

From there they can hear
the faint hum of the steam turbines
in the old power station next door.

They sit for hours,
sometimes do a little necking,
and watch the lights
on the Ben Franklin Bridge.

It doesn’t cost them anything,
on a lovely and warm spring night.

Bobby

Sounds OK to me Bobby.
The kids are having fun doing what comes naturally.
Good stuff!

It's nice to know that nights like this came into their lives. *S*

Thanks Eric,

You are correct.  Penn Treaty Park is still a romantic place.  It can also be a dangerous place.  But that's another sadder story I probably won't go into.  On second thought, perhaps I should.

Hello Bobby, this is perfect, you deftly mixed geography , history, emotions and love in a well crafted piece, each stanza is important by itself and together tell a  touching story  ...I have the memory of the philadelphia harbour during summer, wandering and visiting, I really love "the love" of your poem.

have a nice day

Thanks dear Angellea,

I'm pleased you enjoyed the poem.

We tend to start that kind of stuff early here in the hood.

Thanks Yann,

If you wondered near Penn Treaty Park, you were very near my house.

Next time you go to Philadelphia, let me know.  Philadelphia has great places to eat.
