I saved pieces
of you.
Parts, silly parts
that held nothing, really,
but a connection
in my mind.

Some mornings I wake up
and forget
you are gone
and I am left,
expected to move
breathe, be.

A part of me
lives behind.
Missing you, wanting
to hold you
feel you again.

I didn’t understand before.
Not my own feelings,
what should have been, nor
what should not have been.
Oh how I loved you,
love you still,
cling to you in my soul.

I sacrificed pieces
of me.
Parts, silly parts
That held everything, really,
and my connection
to you.

I think we all hold on to pieces of any relationship we are in or have been in.  They seem to mold and shape us to define what we become.  Just never let go of who you really are.  There is beauty in that heart that still needs to shine.  Nice expression of feelings and worded just right.

We all have piecefull lives, don't we? Fortunately, many of our pieces are regenerative, otherwise we could only give our heart away one time..

always in awe of your style....

Ah, lady... I know the ache of this well... those silly parts of us sometimes define us... it's so hard to step from being... to simply remembering. Beautiful write!!

Slapping your hand sista.  I too have kept the good parts so close that I can't see through them to anything else.  Maybe we should have a bonfire?

A life divided has never been worded more accurate.  Well done.

loss is loss..be it a death or the loss of love from walking away.

some just hurt longer and harder.

Silly pieces...movie stubs, emails, text, a green foam frog...pieces of a past happy time..I want to keep some of those.

Thank you all for the replies.

A green foam frog? There MUST be a poem in that somewhere!

I felt this in my chest, as it drew my eyes toward the basement and thoughts of the box downstairs that split everything into befores and afters.

You spoke my heart here plainly.

Yep, I have boxes of pieces.  The 500 variety and larger.  Sounds a bit like Silence of the Lambs, doesn't it?

I know what you mean and I like your poem, Susan.

I am so bereft...

Methinks that you are so amazing, simply because you do not know that you are amazing.

This is golden. Not sterling, not even in that class--

GOLDEN!!!
