Honour Thy Earth Mother
by Linda L. Dowd

By a slow, lazy river, lined with cottonwood trees,
a symphony was carried by a warm, southern breeze.
Leaves shimmered and whispered in the summering light,
~ Joining musical waters and songs of bobwhite.

As I lay on sweet grasses, a pulse thrummed in the ground.
~ The vibrations sent through me, did amaze and astound.
For I knew that Earth’s spirit was speaking to me,
~ of the reckless abandon throughout Man’s history.

The polluting of Nature, ~ the sky, land, and seas,
~ would bring turbulent wind storms ~ floods, droughts, and dis-ease.
There were Universal laws based on ‘Cause and Effect’,
and the downfall of Man would come from his lack of respect.

Bleak visions of death ~ reeled through my mind.
There was neither fauna nor flora ~ or trace of mankind.
A monochrome world without rainbows or color,
~ as in the aftermath of war ~ but even bleaker and duller.

The planet was barren, for all species had died.
~ Scourges and pestilence claimed life world-wide.
Vegetation had vanished from our native berth,
~ due to Man’s endless taking from our Mother Earth.

~ A desolate planet with neither colour nor sound.
All waters had dried up and no life could be found.
As stark images continued, tears were stinging my eyes,
for I knew without change, Man would face his demise.

I dreaded the thought of where we were heading,
and knew that these visions, I now should be spreading.
The time was past due for ending the insanity,
~ and for saving the planet and all of humanity.

All taken from Nature, should forthwith be returned.
~ This balancing of energies, must now be relearned.
Honour thy Earth Mother. Show Her love and respect.
Pay your utmost attention. ~ Not thoughtless neglect.

~*~

The Harmonic Convergence of nineteen eighty-seven,
~ rained spiritual blessings from high up in heaven.
The restoration of our planet and unification of souls,
~ Began with the conjunction of cosmic trine it extols.

~*~

By a slow, lazy river, lined with cottonwood trees,
~ A symphony was carried by a warm, southern breeze.
Leaves shimmered and whispered in the summering light,
~ Joining musical waters and songs of bobwhite.
.

"for I knew without change, would come our subsequent demise."

I think this is one of your best, certainly one of my favorites

BRAVO!!
Though we've seen a growing global network of 'conscious' activists standing up to corporate as well as individual carelessness and greed that fosters much environmental degradation, we still have a long way to go, so many 'fronts' to confront.
This is a beautiful write, poet EA.
(PS*** My daughter was born the year of Harmonic Convergence. I must be here 2012)

SEA ~

I appreciate your appreciation! Mind you, I have now just reformatted the poem and rephrased a few lines. I was tripping my own tongue on the wordy lines. I hope it reads easier for others now.

Thank you!

Have a great day,
Linda

recalls Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring"!

I am especially fond of that "Summering light" ending!:

"Leaves rustled and shimmered
in the summering light.
~ Joining musical waters
and singsongs of bobwhite(!)"

applause for this expressive 'penning'!!

Oh Linda that is a poem that should be read by every person on earth and then some of us might do something about this global warming that threatens man-kind. A very thought provoking poem from the hand of a true carer. Love to you dear Lady.

ARCTIC ~

Your challenged spawned some great poems on saving our planet. I have enjoyed reading them. This is a serious issue and the more aware people become to the plight of the planet ~ the more likely it is that they will do things to save it!

This... is a recurring dream of mine. *S* I keep thinking (hoping? *S*) that one day, all the bits and pieces will fit together into a full story... Until then? *S* I'll slip into your poetry. *S* Well done!!

This is a wonderful wake up call to those that are sleepwalking. May they read this and realize they can help preserve the beauty we all know of and you speak of here

I always appreciate you 'slipping' into my poetry. I enjoy yours as well. So often, you and I feel ~ and see, the same things. Sometimes that's good ~ and some times, it's not. ~ but mostly, that's a very good thang!!!

One Slick Lady ~

Hi, Helen! Thank you ~ and thank you! It is so good to know that you also enjoy my poems with music and my voice recordings! I really enjoy doing them. Perhaps I will get around to orchestrating another one, in the near future! Right now, I'm literally swamped with projects a plenty!

Love and Natural Light!
