The cat arrived before I did.
Ancient guest.
Persian.
He sat on the rug.
Upon the cold  carved alcove above the bridal throne
Ancient Persian on Ancient Persian
In Ancient Persia.
He brought no gift.
Nor did I.
Time ceased. The cat's squinted slits flashed away the centuries.
The bride arrived hooded pink and silked.
The mother hovered and twirled the cape to reveal her daughter.
Old women trilled the ancient arabic  trill.
The cat purred its approval.
His tail took up the beat.He knew the tune and
followed the trance...
Back to roots of family bonding; of giving;of submitting;of willing over one's whole self in an uncompromising testimony to life's plan.
Hard times decreed an ill-fitting gown.
Hard times only enhanced the gift  she gave..
Herself
The squeal of another ancient heralded the groom.
He now sat rosy cheeked and shy.
Girls furled around him ,drowning  him in silk and promises of pleasure, pain ,birthrights disappointments and blessings.
With hand heads and hearts entwined, Time stood still for them.
The cat left.
I left.
I took my treasured gift home .

I really enjoyed this! The image of the regal Persian cat presiding over the affair was 'purrfect'.

Boshii, I've enjoyed this too. I agree, it is "purrfect." And what more, I am actually owned by a Persian cat

What a great read, the visuals, the tongue in cheek, the culture shock...

it's all so vivid.

I'm especially fond of your ending,
"the cat left, I left"   yea that!!!
