                I was dealing with pain,
the first night I met her.
I felt a melting on the air
as we spoke to tell our stories
at a party of mutual friends.
                Her mother schooled nodding head
                led the conversation easily.
                Above a long evening gown
                her words flowing effortlessly
from a pale face long since kissed.

                That night easily marked
the best time of my last two years.
                I haven't seen eyes I'd remember
or really looked for since then.
                She was ex-wife strained,
                living in heart imposed exile
just lately forcing herself from the past.
                But instantly her look
                showed her deference,
                open minded but struggling
                with divorce vibrations.

                Her heart well sheltered,
                she uncovered, searching
                within my eyes, my worth
                that was leaning toward her.
I stopped and caught my thinking
my heart leaping, I was headed
                into a world of pressing.

The night and time were truly hers
She'd climbed a wall and jumped
from the past, a lifetime of work.
                The wishing for forever gone
wifely anxieties pushed from her mind.
Now here she was a shy divorcee
                her children and her ideals
                grown but always welcome.

                I loved the trance,the spell,
                grasping warmth from my fire.
                I inhaled her perfumed words,
the spilling of her refreshed innocence
                cut through my stale heart
                and started my inner music.
I moved closer, a lone searcher
caught up in her positive pull
with my negative world about to sail.

The first of many dances she drew to me
pressed into my arms by trusting choice.
                Swaying with my willing touches
I pulled her closer and brushed her cheek,
scaring myself somewhat! - she smiled sweetly
and the feeling numbed my legs for a minute.

The night now lost in fervor
memories of past encounters filling my head.
                The  heat of her breathing
added an ardent swell to my open breast.
Grasping to deal with the nuance of her,
my nevermore ruled over by insight,
                an unexpected stabbing at conclusion....
                "She's got to be special!"

I pushed up closer to her blithe frame
in her eyes I smiled to see
her wish of want to cross forbidden lines.
                I felt the silly schoolboy,
                rearing in me so suddenly,
my heart, strained to keep control
                soaring!

Only we, knew what was happening,
                talking through the tall past
We reached the border of vulnerability together.
                We left together laughing
right past the astonished staring eyes.

                In the morning light
I was blessed with her keen smile searching me,
                both of us still caressing,
in the warm sweet spent silence
the constant tangent of ripening love.

                She said sheepishly,
                "I'd almost forgotten!" and smiled
                that afternight soothing smile
and that was six years ago.
I'm still waking to that smile
like a drink of fresh water,
                every morning!
                A smile for every afterlife!

Eric, I would say that both her heart ~ and her body ~ were in loving, capable hands...

I thoroughly enjoyed this 'reading' experience.

From such vulnerability to the ending smile... I was entranced through every line of the transformation... Bravo!!! *S*

Yes, she set the mainsail for you,
and a love symphony began.
Beautiful romantic write, Eric.

Eric my good friend that is such a sweet sensual romantic story that you have written here. I must admit that the first time I read it, I was so relieved when I got to the above stanza and read that you
have gained a lovely lady and also that you are both still together.   thanks for sharing this intimate love story with us all.

Thank you Lindsay
Those are nice words of recognition. I remember you saying in a previuos post how you and your lady have traveled the world somewhat and have enjoyed each other's company.
I appreciate those fine comments and thanks for the visit.

Eric, the shorter lines felt somewhat choppy; not only this added dimension to your piece, I also felt it actually enhanced it. A raw emotional experience, and a delightful one to boot

Thank you Mark. I tend to write these things in the first person and just fall into them.
I don't possess your finely tuned poetic skills. I compliment you for that because you are such a willing student to the art.
You have accomplished a lot.

I'm simply an old song writer story teller guy.

I do enjoy reading your work very much. In fact I just commented on your "Growing Up" revision.

Thanks

Thanks for the compliments Eric. What can I say, besides that this "willing student of the art" is reading your poetry and is learning lots from it? Indeed, You say "accomplished", but I'll say that I've indeed learned a lot since I've joined this forum. If I can add your straight-from-the-heart-and-to-the-heart of your narratives, set up a vivid scene with the economy of words of Bobby, and write with the soft, graceful elegance of Bill, then I'll be on the right way And there are quite a few others I should mention too, will take that up to the alley one of these days.

And by the way, thanks for the honest critique. This is invaluable advice to me.

Mark

You are more than welcome and I have always believed that a humble attitude such as yours is at the heart of being very accomplished at what one is trying to perfect.
Lenny Breau one of the greatest guitarists that ever played was a very humble unassuming man. Yet, Chet Atkins said that he was one of the best thumb and finger pickers in the world. That's really something since Chet Atkins and Merle Travis practically invented the style which is very hard to master really well.

I certainly wish you the best.

Eric
