I’ll write it down.
There’s nothing else that I can do,
I can’t cry anymore
I can’t bleed anymore
I can’t hope or believe in truth.

Natural justice, they say.
Well it limped off away.
What more can this world ensue?

If I let my heart bleed anymore
There’ll be no blood at all
So I’ll be ruthless
And cut it with ice,
So it’s cold as the war-
A wall with no door
And will never let empathy through.

I’ll deal with the pain
So I can't feel again
Never panic or sob in my hands,
Never beg to God
With these weak tears
Salty like sweat – here’s to eighteen years!
Now to stand up and be a man.

In my book no man is truly a man without empathy and if you are one of the "feeling kind" to deny your inherent nature is a ... sin (for lack of a better word).  I do, however, understand the need for cover-ups in this word of ours as a means of protecting the self but the self wants to be known and loved for who it is and sometime or other in your ensuing years (which are many) it will demand acknowledgment and acceptance.  Sooner is always better than later.  Oops - sorry about the soap box stuff but life has a way of hardening us if we let it and in my opinion we shouldn't let it. All emotion is meaningful - feel it, write it, know it and build a stable structure upon it and then, my friend, you'll be a man  - but what do I know?  I'm just a ... human being.
