I’ve been told,  Pretty is…
"As pretty does".

How can I remain pretty
When teardrops well in my eyes
Of fury, depise,
Of their wrongs ruling over right?

Falling into their mire, I’ll naught
For by changing words and image,
I can change my very thought:

          "Mirror, mirror on the wall
Tear on cheek in midst of fall,
          Reflect my tear upside down
          As prism drowns life's frown . "

          Saline drop to crystal ball,
         “Where will my future lead?”
          Magnified and imaginified,
          Tear to shining see

O're sea salt amid the clouds
          Bursting colors expand and clothe
In silken waves of wind swept ways,
          A balloon begins to grow.

Billowing 'cross in warmth of fire
         The balloon will soar above
While minds below ignore the phrase,
“ Pretty is as pretty does.”

Just a note, my rant is employment related.  They just let go of the best principal I've seen in almost three decades and of the ten principals of whom I've served.  Who knows what lurks in others' minds?

"employment related" rant....   can understand that especially in these times when cutbacks are occurring.

Hope all is well.

Times are financially rough, yes, but one unhappy teacher got her husband elected to the board, and the rest is history!     Little does she know what she's in for now when we replace our principal, as good principals are hard to come by, and even if they have great potential, it takes several years to work it out.   I should know as I've worked under enough of them...

At least she went down with integrity and a tremendous support of staff and community.

Thanks again for listening...

I'm sorry about your job situation... my sister's a teacher, so I know a good principal can make the toughest year better... and a bad one can make every day miserable.

But... it's so good to see you back! And a marvelous rant this was!!! *S*

Ah, Sissie...the educational world is in deep hurt indeed - and it is only just beginning, especially with the funding being cut back. I'm looking toward the possibility of losing my own position in the near future...

the world, she is a'changin'...

Educating each new generation is tough enough without the political games of School Boards.
The students will remember the best principals long after they've left. I still remember Viola Burton, an exceptional lady and the Principal of the elementary school I attended in California. She was my Rock of Gibralter through many difficult times.
Cathy, thank you for honoring all the good Educators.

What a pleasant surprise to see a post from you today! I know you've been busy, busy, busy ~ as that is the lot of an educator. As you know, my daughter is one as well ~ and you teachers earn every dollar!

When I noticed that this was a "rant", I thought to myself, Cathy's rants are always done with passion ~ and with class! ~ Yeppers! I was right!

It's difficult to stand by when you feel an injustice is being done to someone.

Love and a warm hug,
Linda

Just wanted to thank everyone for their comments and concern.  I started to write individual notes last week, but was called away from the computer and never found my way back until now!

I hope all goes well with everyone.

Love and hugs,
misce'

miscellanea,

What a rant!  I hate that a fine principal was removed, but ... I was caught up in your poem.  It's really good.  I always am happy to see your name and see you have posted a poem.

I can only hope that things are better now - we can only hope that the fine people who are removed from jobs due to petty politics are rewarded in another way.

Your poem shows your loyalty, talent and inner beauty.

Alison
