Your ground of Africa
hadn’t enough rain,
your ground of Africa
hadn’t enough friends.

One buried you silently
stranger young man,
far from yours,
far from your beaches,
one buried you
in a cemetery of Brest.

Europe made you dream,
you slipped into the holds of a cablier.

Nobody heard
your shouts in the hold,
you died silent,
you died desperate.

Your ground of Africa
hadn’t enough wheat,
your ground of Africa
hadn’t enough sense.

One buried you
in the cemetery of Kerfautras,
unknown migrant
with no name on your grave.

Your ground of Africa
hadn’t enough rivers,
your ground of Africa
hadn’t enough happiness.

Europe made you dream,
one buried you with your dreams
in the holds of the indifference,
in the holds of the rain
which never stops
above Brest and its infinite piers.

Oh, dear Yann, this is a powerful poem and a touching one. How many die like this during the search of a better life far away from home?

A poem of deep significance, well written.

Love,
Margherita

Wow! This is a powerful work.
However, a very sad one.
You penned it so well.

A poignant story. It's very sad when someone dies as an unknown.
Somewhere, somebody cared for each migrant, and no doubt misses the lost soul.

Yann, this is a very sad story. ~ It truly aches. I feel it to the very marrow of my bones.
You told it with such compassion.

Yo Yann,

This seems very good.

What is a "cablier"?  I don't understand that word.

Hi bobby, thanks for the comment. I just used the french word because I had not the word in the dictionary...A cablier is the kind of boat that drop the cables in seas for phones, etc...

Thanks again.
