Are We as Good a Carpenter?

García Márquez said,
quote:
"Ultimately, literature is nothing but carpentry."

Familiarity stirred sensations,
reminiscence came immediately,
encouraging memories of my father,
for his rough hands knew wood,
nails, brick, stone, mortar,
direction and leveling

and how he liked nothing better
than to write and receive letters,
but he never did put his ditties of song
or pieces of poems to pen and paper;

he would just recite them,
or make them up from some far
ago pain made pleasant in his lifetime

and those words, only heard
and felt, were strong, like a well
constructed bridge to
those other times,

just as surely as if he had used
wood, nails, brick, stone, mortar

when his direction was sure,
and level.

Yo Sunshine,

I like this poem a lot. It has loads of wisdom.

Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez is always right.  I love his books, and haven't seen one in a while.

Am I missing one?

OOPS, Just found one, I ordered it today.

Love Bobby

I don't doubt for a moment that your dear Father had a wonderful, attentive listener in you. I so love it when you reminisce. No one does it like you.

Your elegance and your mastery in "word carpentry" are wonderfully displayed here.

Love,
Margherita

I envy you that relationship.  It must have just been wonderful to feel loved and secure.  What a nice memory to mark the love of your father.

Wonderful means of illustrating the depth of tenderness you feel for this reflection.

Sometimes the memories of the simplest things are the ones that are greatly cherished.

To put it this way in words is true and loyal.

awesome poem.  The last line of the first stanza is my favorite.  "direction and levelling" are what his hands are used for.  These words have double meaning to me.  Like maybe you were referring to actual carpentry, or perhaps a father's stern hand in parenting.  I like this poem alot.

Hello Sunshine...this really was an inspiration to read, and you helped us share the love of your Father.  Thank you for that, my friend...

The acorn did not fall far from the father oak.

But, fortunately for your fellow pipsters, you did put pen to paper.

An extraordinary write on several 'levels'.

Love and Sun Light,

Linda
