I am again sequestered
in this season of the dark,
alive by knowing Sol has turned
his corner in the sky
delivering extra minutes
more precious every day,
someday soon
again to warm my world
while I try accepting hourglasses
running out of sand;
my body breaks
more easily than I recall,
good that I don't dwell upon my frailties,
of course
there are so few friends left alive to tell.

I mourn the dead,
washing memories in murky waters
of self serving apathy
I yearn a moment's contact
from those nevermore to rise,
I detest such human weakness
only when its mine,
I should leave the dead to find their needed  peace;
they do return
on timetables we the living never learn
yet I yearn to keep alive entwined emotions,
our sometimes shared disparate needs,
and try to pull the dead away
from their time of understanding,
perhaps if I were younger
I could remember feeling shame.

C, this is why there are poets (such as yourself) who can and do resurrect spirits with words.

Yo Icebox,

I like the thought of burning memories.  Isn’t there a possibility of choking on the smoke though?

BTW, nice poem.

Dear Charlie, I love this poem very much. We need more light to reduce the melancholy, yes!

May warm sunshine and warmth of friendship enter your heart and make it lighter.

So profound!

Love and warm hugs.

"I detest such human weakness
only when its mine"

that is the line that punched me in the chest...I have often told Karen I find it difficult to read you because when I do I feel you can "see" me...

now I know you know me.  That line.

Anyway...I do enjoy your thoughts so much.

Profound thoughts, Mr. Ice, wriiten by a master poet. I especially love the second verse.

Ah don't feel shame. You have every right to pull them right out of the past and embrace them with your affection.

After all, you can still share 'your' gift of consciousness with them.

I hope those memories melt some of that winter chill. Man, it's cold up here in Canada and I only tolerate it I never learn to like it.

I enjoyed this very much.

But when you were young, you felt no shame, had no idea where life would lead, and who would not be there at the end of the road.  That's the tragedy of age, I think, the narrowing of my life.

So if I live long enough, the shame will go away?

*smile*

Guess I'll just have to try it, huh?

love you Mistah C.

I'll have to try this for the nights when the whine doesn't work. (I miss my whiskey.)

Shame on me.
