You are the joy of my life,
The sunrise of my mornings,
The very foundation
Of my hope, when hope is all
That sustains me.

Hug the children for me;
I will call as soon as I can.

I love you . . .

I wrote the note many years ago, and found it in the trash with the dozen roses. Things were difficult for her then---married to a man who was a corporate executive, but preferred to be a poet. Not every poet can be a Wallace Stevens. Sigh . . .

Yo Art,

This is very sad.  I hope things are going well for you.

this poem is too simplistic.  i would have thrown it away too.  did you write it moments before your flight or something?

the sentiment is sweet as can be, and I appreciate that aspect.  I almost like the simplicity in a way.  It's nice to read something that isn't all shrouded in murky images and belabored by mythical references and such.  I just think you could have applied more effort to this particular poem.

Or, are you doing a play on found art?  found poetry?

Thanks Bobby. Things are going well; I'm enjoying retirement, and my grandson and nephew, 4 and 2 respectively.

Thanks SEA. Her reaction doesn't tell the whole story. I wasn't without fault then nor now, but it's just a piece of life that I recall as one of those turning points.

Thanks for the read and comment, tao power. It is a note I wrote back in '82. I didn't want to change it, hence it's simplicity, a spontaneous expression of feeling, at a difficult time. Sometimes poetry---good and bad , rises out of such moments.

Best wishes,

art

Personally, I like spontaneous poetry, Art and your explaination rather completes this one for me.

Listening to every heart

Even our most intimate gestures
can be highly misunderstood,
or even worse,

thrown away.

It's always a bit difficult to gauge
the power of someone else's winds...

Nothing from the depths of the heart is too simplistic.
It's a moment never to be repeated. Besides, no one likes to wander through too much depth when they're trying to reach another's heart.

"I love you!" is never too simple.
