Mom and Bones landlord
feels he’s not getting enough loot
out of the flat he's renting to them.

No one knows
what happened to Mom and Bones,
they must be somewhere out there.

They just disappeared
from the neighborhood
one dark winter night.

Their friends miss them,
and worry about them.

Sadly, this happens
to many
poor people in our city.

Bobby

And not only in your city, dear Bobby! To lose the roof over one's head is most certainly one of the most dramatic experiences and in these difficult times, those cases increase.

And not only landlords of the kind you speak of are without heart, but even church people. We have heard of people who are "thrown out" of their apartments by owners (religious institutions) who should be the first to feel compassion and in times of crisis to show comprehension.

Thank you for touching this very frightening aspect of society.

Love,
Margherita

This touches me deeply, Bobby. I have lost friends this way, never to see them again. Thanks for reminding us of the value of neighbors, and the reality of suffering that we sometimes wish would just go away.

The latest sadness I heard on the news was...

There was a fire and the couple renting died in the fire. The landlord in return is sueing a family member for breaking their lease.
How sad our world is becoming.
This is a true story. Coming from Ohio.

Yo dearest Margherita, Helen, BonBon and Art,

Thanks for the wise responses to this poem.

This one was inspired by a recent happening.  The single Mom and her two Bones like sons that lived across our two-foot wide city alley have disappeared in the night.

I’ll miss picking up the cigarette butts those boys would flick over my chain link fence well past midnight, as they relaxed after working our mean streets.

God bless them, I’ll miss them all.

I’ll say a special prayer for their welfare in this cruel world tomorrow morning at Mass.

I hope to see them again.  They were good friends to me and my dog Hilda.

I read of your inspiration for this sad piece.
I fear that the number of these especially sad scenarios is on the rise.

Sending love and healing hugs to all those in need ~ and billions of dollars if I could get China to lend me the money like it does the government! ~ but I would put the money where it is truly needed!!!

Thanks dear Linda,

For your kind thoughts about my friends.

I forgot to mention their two dogs that were good friends to my Hilda. They spent a lot of time barking to each other.

We'll just have to hope for the best.

Sad ending to an already sad story Bobby.
Life seems more than unfair sometimes. Sometimes it can be empty.

Thanks Eric, and Bill,

Yes, I am happy to report that Mom, and her two Bones boys are doing okay.  They have moved to another rental unit just around the corner, and up the street.  The Bones boys were out on the playground shooting hoops with their friends.  They will doubtless be out on the street tonight.

They are safe? And well.

When I was growing up in Altoona, PA, we moved three times.  At last we got in a house across from a factory making concrete building blocks when I was five years old.  I lived there until I was grown, went to Philadelphia, and had a family of my own.

Thanks for your concern for Mom and her boys.

There are times when I'm glad I don't get to read a poem right away. *S* In this case, your response alleviated the worry I'd experienced from your poem. *S* I'm glad they're all okay... the mom, the bones boys and your dog's friends, too. *S*

Thanks dear Suthern,

For your concern for the family.

Yes, they are doing fine, and as well as can be expected here in the hood.

Thanks dear Passing shadows,

Thanks for reading and your insightful comment.

Stay out of the woods Hon.  One of those bears could grab hold of you and eat you up.

We wouldn't want that to happen.
