Those evenings at home,
every heart, every soul,
gathered around the table,
prayer, sustenance, conversation,
a giving of account, then retiring
to the living room to listen
to the radio,* “Amos and Andy, etc.

Mother and Father were there—
the center of the universe, and we
were little stars, little dim stars,
growing brighter by the light they
imparted through their love—
the books, the newspaper,
the teaching, the discipline, the shaping,
the building of hopeful lives,
in the presence of watchful, loving eyes . . .

And of discipline? Just a caring
application, today, could land momma
and daddy, in jail . . .

We didn't have TV until the mid Fifties---"Mickey Mouse Club", "Lawrence Welk" wow!

Don't mean to be preachy, but it's a little habit I've yet to break.

It's hard to say "discipline" through smiling lips.
But  ah  say "love " and even the eyes twinkle.
Now I want to write my sermon.
Enjoyed your work Boshii2

You have expressed the true essence of the true family, dear Art. And you did it because of fond memories, even discipline when sustained by love, is a life lesson of deepest significance. (former generations of parents did of course exaggerate sometimes, I guess, but nonetheless they were loved and respected much more than parents are now).

Wonderful! You made me remember my childhood when my Grandmother was alive too and the prayer of gratitude was an absolute must. And behaviour too. Of course I ADORED her.

Thank you, dear Art.
Love in the family is something that we should evaluate and truly live much more again.
Love,
Margherita
