.

The sun sets
Low on
Desert mountains

The last light
Is blood red

We are
Very far
From home

The bitter bread
We eat alone
Not from
Affectionate hands

A cold wind
Weeps among
Grey leafless branches

Once proud trees
Long since dead

A single star
Throughout
The darkest night

The neighing
Of tired horses

Ridden
With sadness
By deliberate men

John,

This is an interesting poem.  It takes me back to the Australian Outback.

Very nice. well done. This would not have anything to do with Loreena Mckennitt?
I saw a reply of yours with a link on U tube.
Regardless nice work

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Surreal, with a numbing beauty. One can almost hear the mourning of the wind in the dead trees.
