After running away from home,
Bones is destitute and hungry.

A kind hearted soul spots him,
and picks him up,
takes him to the Paradise Diner,
and buys him a hamburger.

The guy tries to talk to Bones,
urges him to go back home.

“Yo Mister,
thanks anyway,
but you don’t know
nothin bout my home.”

“Oh, come on now son,
don’t you miss your mother?”

“Don’t talk to me bout mother,
my mothers a tramp,
just like your old lady.

Don’t talk to me
bout my mother.

Why aren’t you at home
with your old lady
if you miss her so much?”

Bones response
rather turns the kind soul off,
and Bones doesn’t get dessert.

Bones decides
he better mend his ways,
put a smile on his face,
and treat people with money
to spend on dessert
a little better.

He’s got to develop a line.

Bobby

So that was a bitter lesson for Bones, dear Bobby. He already had enough bitterness in his young life.

Negative remarks about one's Mother are never welcome, not even if they might be true.

Love,
Margherita

Thanks dear Margherita,

Yes it was a hard lesson for Bones.

The apple dumplings with cream sauce at the Paradise Diner are absolutely scrumptious, a treat not to be missed.

Bones learned to smile that day, even if he didn’t mean it.

Thanks dear Ida,

Yes, mothers are usually special.

This poem was inspired by one of Shirley Jackson’s short—short stories.  I forget the name of it, but I'll never forget it.

Thanks dear Linda,

Yes, you are correct.

The director of the settlement house where I used to live, and work, introduced me to them about fifty years ago.  They are good.

Now I've gone and made myself hungry, I'll have to stop by the Paradise and see if they are still on the menu.

Bones knows about living on the edge it seems. I almost laughed, but I remember the sting of  going to bed without desert! Another great episode, Bobby,

Thanks Art,

For the very kind words on this effort.

Yes, going to bed without dessert was the pits.  Of course going to bed without eating at all was worse.
