I shall go home now, where resentment
has simmered long, where  umbrage brewed an age;
for whether I be dregs or scum to them
it matters not; to me it’s all froth now.
And they are part of where I must call home.
And in the kitchen where tomato sauce
has fossilized upon the stove, I’ll open
a fridge that reeks of rotten cabbage and
sour milk; there crusts and ham and crusting mustard
will be enough to make myself a sandwich.
This is ground zero where I’ll never be
a hero, where my flaws are shrined and known.
They also know where moles adorn my ass,
and they have seen my shriveled penis , and
they know what I’ll look like when I will bald
and lose my teeth. This is where glories all
repose, forgotten, where humiliation
is ever host. This is where I belong.
Here, where cool spring is scented with manure
and where cold autumn rain will smell of corn
I shall return and feel ( and know )I’m home.

Bravo! Well written Marc!

These lines and the ones that follow made me smile in the truth of it all...

"This is ground zero where I’ll never be

Yep, as the cliche goes, there's no place like home.

Love this.

Eric,

thanks for reading and the nice feedback. I'm exploring other poetic paths lately, and I'm having fun   I'm not so sure how well it worked, but I have tried along with the negative and humour to embed the touching (for lack of a better term) between the lines. A home is also a place where one is (or should be) accepted without pretence. I take it that you saw that

Quite impressive, dear Marc-André.

It's tragicomic, but it's so true in familiar surroundings we are best known and feel relaxed in a way as we don't need to pretend. But true coziness exists only if there is love and acceptance of how we are, but that isn't always reality "at home".

Love,
Margherita

Yo Mark,

This is an insightful view of "Home".  It's a good short piece.

Margherita, thanks for reading. Home is quite an elusive concept, isn't it?

Ida, thanks for reading and for taking the time to comment.

Bobby,I'm glad to know you've liked this one (I thought you would ), your feedback is always invaluable to me.

Linda, thanks for flattering me. I've still got a lot to learn and even more to master, but at times, it feels good.

Thanks to all for your support as I develop as a writer.
