A big city girl like me
has no business here
among the cows and cornfields
and I feel a little queer.

Photobucket

Maybe I can get a job
harvesting this year,
the people are friendly enough,
but I have no business here.

Photobucket

There ain't too much to City Hall,
the police department right next door,
haven't seen a cop at all,
guess folks don't mind bein' poor.

I married into the family,
though I love, I fear
a big city girl like me
has no business here.

Dixie...I loved seeing those photos.  Change isn't easy, but you can make it what ever you want it to be, just being you.

Dixie, thank you for sharing those photos ~ especially your wedding photo! May your life together be as happy as you both look in that pic! You make a lovely looking couple! I said a little wedding prayer for the two of you!

You have had a lot of big changes in your life ~ and in a short period of time. It often takes awhile to become acclimatized to new life situations and to get yourself into 'alignment' with them. Best of luck to the both of you!

Dixie

I haven't read your words for a while.
I love the element of humour in this although I know you're three quarters serious..
A sense of humour can get you through a lot in this life.
Maybe that will keep you from missing the city too much......(smile)...

I don't know ... but, it sure as hell looks a lot better to me than Newark, N.J. !

best of luck in your 'new life' attempt!

I for one, chose to permanently trade cities for farms, fields, and forests a long time ago.

interesting images!!

Yo dear Passing shadows,

I never knew you were from the city.

Arkansas is a lovely state, full of kind, friendly people.  I've worked the a lot in the past.

This is a great picture, poem combination.

Love Bobby

I just love the irony of your "having no business here." I am from Arkansas, and it is forever a place of serenity. When I last visited, I got up to see what the rush hour was like. There was just me and the quiet, empty road. This is a fine poem, and the graphics add so much to the enjoyment!

Thanks,

art

well passing,

...at least you have one of them thar motorized vehicles in your part of the state...smiles from further down south

...my view of Arkansas formed when my grandfather told me (after the song Wolverton Mountain came out) that he knew Clifton Clowers and he surely didn't have a pretty young daughter...for those of you familiar with the lyrics, nothing says home like personally knowing folks in a country-western song...

opposites...I hate the bigger cities. I would take a walk on a dirt road over 4 lanes of traffic any day of the week!!

Dear Dixie, you have got a great opportunity to enrich your life in a new way. I'd watch the clouds move for hours and oh, the night sky, so vast and open, not light polluted. What wonder!
In simplifying our lives there is true evolution. And you have love. Savor every moment of your freedom to BE.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures along with your heartfelt words.

Love,
Margherita

I'm glad you all enjoyed my little poem about my surroundings which I have to laugh about sometimes to keep me from going crazy.

I sometimes feel like I'm in Mayberry or living back home with the Beverly Hillbillies. But it's all in the attitude I guess.

Though Pensacola wasn't really a big city, it is compared to this place. The beach...I wonder if I will ever feel it on my toes again.

Thank you each for your encouraging comments!

I've lived in both worlds... and while I know the change is drastic, I also know you and know you'll find a way to bloom where you are planted... whereever that might be. *S*

The photos are great... thanks for sharing your wedding picture! *S*

I have a feeling that is will grow on you and you will eventually have a hard time leaving it.  Open nature and life in it's complexity of simpleness have a way of finding a path to most hearts that are willing to really see what is in front of them.  Hope to see some inspiration in writing when you start seeing it all.... perhaps starting with that open sky at night.
