MY SOLITUDE, I ADORE YOU
AN ODE
21 July 1983

Here in the living depth of this tranquil night,
Warm in the haven of your gentle arms,
I answer the call in your deep, true eyes.

Oh, my Solitude, accept this hymn of adoration,
For you are my strength, my friend, my confidant;
With you my thoughts run wild and free;
You share my bursting joys
And my aching sorrows.
You have taught me how
To smile,
To weep.
You forgive my angers
And my follies.
You let me love you without restraint.
I hurt you with my hate, and yet
You take me back without reproach.

You know me better than any
And I am part of you,
The perfect union.
You are the very essence of my life …
And …
How can I but love/hate  you,
Knowing that
At Death’s release,
You will
Share
My improbable  peace?

You make solitude a revery...blessed time with one's thoughts.

How lovely!

quote:
... you may share my improbable peace

Solitude as a friend and companion, you speak so beautifully and intimately with her, dear Diana.

Precious work. I was struck by the last words ... who knows??! Peace is probably the result of our deep consciousness of being part of the Whole.

Love and hugs.

Yes, Karilea, solitude is a very necessary part of my day and my life - only child; parents divorced when I was 11; I was divorced in 1974; need my space.     Thank you for your lovely comments.

Thank you Bruce!  I am glad you thought so.

Thank you, Stephen.  Glad you liked it.

Thanks, Margherita.  I enjoyed your thoughts on this - the fact that you gave Solitude a gender - and that peace is probably the result of our deep consciousness of being part of the Whole.  You are making me ponder . . .

Just love these two works of yours on solitude.

The perspective and wording is fresh and opens up nice avenues of thought.

Excellent!

ah...(sighs)

the blessed solitude...

something I rarely get anymore since moving here to Arkansas and getting married.

Can't even go walking because it's so darn cold!

Beautiful poetry!

Thanks Eric.  Actually there were three.

Thanks, Dixie.  It has its disadvantages too.

I enjoy a certain amount of solitude myself,
Diana. It is neccessary for any kind of writing.

A beautiful ode; I love the form. The question mark at the end adds a touch of intrigue.

Thank you, Ida.  Yes, solitude certainly is necessary for writing.

Thank you ink’d for your sensitive and very beautiful compliment and deep understanding.

Thank you, art, for voicing your enjoyment of the poem so clearly.
