Wretched cold,
depths of Winter,
17 and dropping;
my pathetic soul stretched
longing for our sun,
it must be sleeping
somewhere south of here
with Al Gore
and his boogeyman,
beyond frozen horizon;
here nothing moves
crystalline air too cold to stir,
no bird sounds,
no frantic balls of fur hunting
elusive scraps of morning.

17! It was -50 here in Minnesota a few weeks back Up to a sunny and warm 4 degrees today, though!

This is a great write, I can relate to a sort of sadness that sets in when it gets painfully cold...

I'm with you, and thinking of moving to far warmer climes...

Good job, sir!

Yo Icebox,

You've got to talk to the polar bears.

Melting, floating icebergs will cool you off.

Yes, that's cold, dear Charlie, and you transmit the shiverings so well!

I experienced 2 Celsius (35 Fahrenheit) last week in Belgium. There was also a very cold breeze. Yet it felt good, there was the sun and blue sky, but having no gloves on, my fingers felt icy.

As long as it doesn't last for too long ...
Even scientists have different ideas, some say global warming threatens the Earth and others say we are already on the move into a new glacial era. A 100.000 lasting Ice Age! brrrrrrrrrrrr

Love and warm hugs.

The last ice age ended about 25,000 years ago.  It was caused by melting ice caps cooling the oceans.  That is what is causing the low temperatures today.

You ain't seen nothing yet.

Yes Virginia, there is a boogeyman.

A great poem, attuned to the present reality of brutal cold! But I do wonder about long term trends at the poles, especially the North Pole where the superpowers are planning military land grabs as the ice melts, and new sea lanes are open to access that land with presumed riches beyond imagining. It's kind of depressing. I love your artistry---poetic excellence!

Oh, gullible warming will return in July with humidity that makes us feel like we're living underwater.  Just thinking of those too hot days raises our temperature they say.  Maybe that's what Mr. Gore did.

I enjoyed your words and really relate to them since it was only single digit here all day.

God bless,

I love Minnesota.  When I get depressed I just go outside till I don't feel depressed anymore.   It works wonders!!!

It has been pretty warm here but there's rain coming in tomorrow and we need it because we're in a drought, they say. Guess you can't win it's too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry. I have been hearing about how cold it is back east. If it's too cold for Mr. Ice, It's too cold for me. Does inspire lovely poetry though.

I've never been in an ice storm until this one we had last week, and I never want to be again!

Creepy how all is dead silent except for the cracking of tree branches as they fight the weight of the ice and lose.

Arkansas doesn't suit me. I think I might mosey on back down to Florida.

good poem my friend

Dare I tell you that it was 80 degrees in Southern California yesterday?  The flowering trees think that it is spring.
