In a forest of silent trees
A ruined man falls to his knees
He screams to an empty sky above
‘Quicken the heartbeat of my love!’

He cradles her in a trembling grip
Her chest remains a bloody rip
He will recall this blackened day
She strokes his face then slips away

To lie upon a bracken bed
Her face serene as she lies dead
Her last words ‘Love, I forgive’
‘And with my blessing you must live’

The night before he had a dream
A fit of madness it had seemed
A pack of wolves had chased a man
Across a barren frozen land

As a shadow flitted 'cross the moon
A fell voice sneered ‘You’ll be mine soon’
‘To serve and suffer grief and worse’
‘You shall bear an unholy curse!’

‘By day you’ll live among your kind’
‘By night I’ll take your soul, your mind!’
‘A monstrous beast you will become’
‘Prey on the lost. My will be done!’

As madness it had been dismissed
But the full moon was the catalyst
His true love he met by the lake
He should have heeded for her sake

As the pale moon rose above the clouds
His love began to scream aloud
He had become a dreadful beast
His mind gone tore into her breast

As she fell limp to die bleeding
The full moon had begun receding
Beneath the canopy of leaves
A man again he weeps and grieves

Never sigh for a better world, it's already composed, played and told.

A compelling and tragic story! ~ and exceptionally well-told! It held my rapt attention from beginning to end.

That must have been the reason my parents had warned me not to date any werewolves!

Great write! Great read!

Thanks for the response EA. I had worried about this not being the appropriate forum. I wrote how he recieved the curse from a dream I experienced when I was eleven, but don't worry. I'm not a werewolf, so feel quite free to date me. :P

...an old Lon Chaney movie began to play in my mind as I read this...a good write...a vivid memory...and I (for one) am glad you are not a werewolf.  Probably makes your whole life a lot easier.
