The Forest King
by Linda L. Dowd

While walking thru’ the forest,
on a windswept winter’s day,
We spied an ancient oak tree,
~ Of grand bearing and display.

It stood like a silent sentinel,
~ On guard among the pines,
While winds blew thru’ the evergreens
In whistling, wailing whines.

We wrapped our arms around its trunk,
~ Reaching for the other’s hands.
Then leaned in to the weathered bark,
~Melding with the oak and lands.

We sensed the pride and power,
Of this mighty forest king,
With all its innate wisdom,
~ Imbued in every ring.

As icy winds chilled our backs,
Our fronts were safe and warm.
The oak shared its strength and love,
~ To shelter us from storm.

Wise One ~

Don't all OWL's like trees?
Glad you flew in for a peek! You're a hoot!

I have never hugged a tree that didn't hug me back!

Now those trees can be mighty tall and mighty big around. Two people could never hold hands around one of those gentle giants! lol

~ Oh, but hugging one of them can do wonders for what ails you!

Wow, dearest Linda Angelo Terrestre, what a magnificent gift this is! Thank you from my heart for reposting this precious poem for me!

Your wonderful words testify to your great love, respect and worship of trees and how aptly you titled your poem!

Of course I can feel the depth of this bond with trees you have, as I have it too. My Mother always pointed out to me the beauty of trees and whenever she could she went for long walks with me and my brother through the forest. And often we had pic-nic there in organized areas. I will never forget the intense fragrance of the trees in the woods. "Fill your lungs, inhale deeply" she would say ...

You bless me. Thank you!!

Love and hugs.

Your reverence for the green kingdom
shines through here.
I think we should all have a group hug with them.

Ah, Linda, and I am blessed that you have re-posted this marvelous poem. I am drawn to trees and their mute wisdom, given sound in their song with the wind. This is an enchantment of mind and soul! Enjoyed every sip, right down to the very last drop of beauty!

Had to enjoy this once again, dear Linda!

When I am restless I think of the trees who remain on the same spot for all of their life and they exude tranquility and sing of glory.

Deva light, yes!

Love and hugs again.

Lovely writing EA. I've always had a soft spot for poetry that captures the beauty and majesty of nature, and nothing can be more beautiful or majestic than a great, ancient oak.

Never sigh for a better world, it's already composed, played and told.

I am such a huge fan of trees, in fact when I traced my family tree I found out that I was a sap.

How wonderful is your friendship with the beautiful Margherita.

You two are the blessed roots to our family poet-tree.

Words they cannot say
Words they cannot mean
Words cannot express
Your creation such success!
I love it, sooooooo nice!
