It didn’t take a pound of flesh
but a ton of mental stress
to turn the wheels of change
and roll with the incomings
to the edge of where I’m at.

And the edge a place of reverie
where moments congregate and play
soft symphonies of stay right here
or beat that drum of change again
and find another edge.

How sweet and lilting is the tune
of a comfort zone
until the passion rises
and o’er lays the same with dread
of that same old, same old, edge
that neither holds nor caresses
an embedded need.

I love the drums; they move in me
a sense of hopeful restlessness
but too the symphony in me
plays hauntingly of history
that always brought a traveller back
to that same old dreaded edge.

Edges are the damndest things;
they even come in visions
but not long enough to show and tell
whether just a thought or fall!

I found this most interesting. I think with a bit of nudging here and there, it could be as edgy as the topic recalls.
quote:
I love the drums; they move in me
REALLY love this line. It moves in its simplicity, and strikes that hard edge you speak of.

When I read this I thought of a silly rhyme I once read.
             "Curious fly,
              vinegar jug,
              slippery edge,
              pickled bug."
not that I don't take your lovely poem seriously but I guess the reference to the edge made me think of this. It seems I never forget a verse.

Poetically highly refined offering, dear Helen. Edges probably represent an invitation to halt and ponder and then ... to take the leap.

Beautiful!

Love and hugs.

I have teetered indecisively on many a precipace during my life, but I tend to now react intuitively and take that leap of faith.

I appreciate how your poetry gets me to pondering!

Warm hug,
Love,
Linda

Thank you all so much for your comments - they are greatly appreciated.

I think I ponder unknowingly sometimes or maybe it's someone else's ponderings that come out through me but I don't question it.  Leaps of faith are good as long as we land on our feet, right?

Love
Helen
