Your note still sits in front of me
On its own pedestal of memories not to be forgotten
The bottom dresser drawer
Tell me, why does it always seem to open itself?
And these old newspapers, folded and torn
Yet still their story gets across
Riding on black ink, smudged from the tears I've cried
But your picture could never be more clear
Empty bottles scattered across my floor
I drink to what should have been but never was
My failed attempt to forget
Suggested medication to help get me through this
I couldn't help but take advantage of the situation
The two month dosage prescribed, gone in a week
This hurts me more than it hurts you
Your note now rests beside me
On its own pedestal of memories not to be forgotten
A concrete bathroom floor
Tell me, why does this cut always seem to open itself?
I'm quickly accustomed to my unfamiliar surroundings
Though I can't say I've never been here before
My phone cried their last attempt to find me
Echoing throughout the abandoned room
My failed attempt to forget
I brought you here with me
A freshly printed newspaper, yet still folded and torn
Your story gets across
Riding on black ink, burning itself inside my head
I'm obligated to say this picture doesn't do you justice
But if it even mattered
It'd be the last thing on my mind

Yo Emily,

You have a good theme in this poem.

Thanks for posting something with a little life in it.
