I was down and broke in Bangor
Feelin sorry for myself
Drank my last drop of Old Port
Tryin to face a trip to hell
Headin home a vagrant minstrel
Back to my hometown Moncton
Left last year with songs to sell
Oh I never sold a one.

So I answered an ad for work
In the local classifieds
In an interview reserved
I met a woman drawn and shy
She struggled with her innocence
A flower in her own shade
She appealed to my selfless sense
When she opened up to say

Chorus:
This farm was Daddy's life it was all that made him whole
I stayed home to keep him comp'ny when Momma died long ago
And he'd say in his own way I should get out on my own
But I stayed on til he was gone now I'm workin this place alone.

I knew then her roots were set
It was all she'd ever known
Though the pay wasn't the best
I couldn't leave her all alone
We worked that hot Maine summer
Cuttin hay and mending fence
And the closer I got to her
The deeper my feelings went

She was fourteen years my elder
grey hair hung round her face
But her eyes so warm and tender
could make the devil turn away
One night I reached for her
and pulled her close to me
Said I can't go on much longer
I need to be with you or leave

Chorus:
This farm was Daddy's life it was all that made him whole
I stayed home to keep him comp'ny when Momma died long ago
And he'd say in his own way I should get out on my own
But now you're here I have no fear of workin this place alone

She was in my arms so swiftly
thought our passion might explode
Felt something move within me
to greet the longing in her soul
Now I had known some girls before
who'd make boys act like men
I always knew what love was for
but now I knew what it meant

Chorus:
This farm was Daddy's life it was all that made him whole
I stayed home to keep him comp'ny when Momma died long ago
And he'd say in his own way I should get out on my own
But now you're here I have no fear of workin this place alone

I just had to stay...

Yo Eric,

This song works for me.

It looks like everyone got lucky, and that's the way it should always be.
