The Sadie Series.

I feel it's healthiest for me as a person to call it quits on this series now, I need to try and let Sadie flutter off. And so it ends.

"You’re My Stream of Consciousness."

Blue ballrooms big dark dresses flowing in the wind one’s fluffy like an upside down cupcake formed to a light bulb nice and round like the top of an umbrella it makes me think of her wearing white gloves with a feather from a peacock in the back of her tightly drawn back hair a bun her pretty face her eyes are shaped a little like large almonds and the way she opens her mouth just so that you can see her teeth when she’s laughing when I tell her the joke about how bad I am at dancing especially in this funny suit that has little tails in this big bright blue and golden ballroom twirling in circles I can’t help it I guess her lips are just  shaped like perfection and embody everything I remember I wish I wouldn’t have kissed her that night when she was drunk and I wasn’t on the gravel road by my car towards the early morning hours so that maybe she would have actually kissed me during a time of sobriety and maybe we could have fallen in love I guess I’ll never know now because she doesn’t have the time and I’m hard pressed to find the time to stop and take a deep breath and stroll like I told her to do before I tried to teach her and I think it worked for a while and she started to fall for me and I loved to talk to her at night but now I can’t because she’s moved on and has probably changed so much she wouldn’t even recognize me unless I could just give her a big hug and smell the way her hair smells in the few few so very few hugs she had given me in our short high school career then maybe she’d remember enough to get a cup of coffee with me and laugh enough to spark an ignition of chemical reactions that would maybe tell her to go on a few more dates with the guy that doesn’t really like coffee that much and has really got his life down pat and sometimes on the long drive home from training in Bloomington with the crew of guys on Mondays and Thursdays he thinks of her every time he goes past lake elmo avenue or sees somebody strolling like he used to with her.

"Sadie."

I could have been
with you
sober
naked before a crowd.

I’d still have tasted
your circular sweet
neatness.

"The Antiquarian Bookseller.'

It's your birthday
this coming Friday.

You're coming home,
and maybe I'll run into you.

On an accidental purpose,
downtown, by the river.

In front of my favorite bookstore:
The Antiquarian Bookseller .

If we're extra lucky,
you can trip,

and I can catch you.

-
"Friday Morning Coffee."

You could pucker slightly
the French doors
that are your mouth,
and I would not mind.

Wrapping me
in an incandescent
sense of happiness,
that will last for days.

May I sip your coffee?
That I'll taste only you,
and the beauty of
that incredible mind…

This way,
I may remember you
when you leave me forever.

Again.

-
"The Imaginary you."

I bought the concentrated
liquid courage
to rip off my shirt.

I made sure to get enough
to dance in a public place,
where there's no music.
(With an imaginary you.)

To ask you
“Why aren't you opening up
and showing me
the gloss of your bright and perfect eyes
every morning,
after a restful sleep.?”
-

-
"Love Flowers."

I threw a stone dish or two,
through a few greenhouses.
Shattered the warmth
that flowers need to grow.

The light filtered down,
and made the blood and chlorophyll
dance and shake
the pulse-pulse-beat,
of a skin drum heart.

Your face turned away,
and light shades of red.
More with awkward,
than embarrassment.

"Fresh Fields Bakery"

You smiled a little too heavily,
for this particular situation .
But it didn't weigh either of us down.

I laughed with you, and you laughed at me.
Because you make me a little funnier
than I usually tend to be.
-
-
-

"You Owe Me Three Hours Of Sleep."

It's too late at night
to be thinking of you.
I try try to close my eyes,
tight enough to block the rays
of your ideal smile.

I'll roll over and crank,
tighten, rearrange
the opposite side
of my thick and manly ribs.
I can't get comfortable,
lying on a bed
of adamantine memories.

-

"A Purple What?"

You told me once,
that if you had to marry so young and dumb,
you’d have chosen me.

You know I’d have walked with you,
in any color you like.

"Volleyball Shorts."

She wore jeans with holes in them,
and volleyball shorts.

Her teeth were slightly crooked,
in the way that statues

are more beautiful
with flaws In the stone.

She laughed at a lot of things,
and slowed down to stroll

when I asked her to.

"I’ve Only Got a Hundred, But You Can Keep The Change."

I bet it's wonderful
to hold you,
your hand in public.
Show you off to the world.

Must be grand,
seeing how your feminine
chest rises and falls,
in midnight passion.

I'd pay you,
in years of my life
to kiss those lips.

"The Netting Distance From Here To Mexico."

I'm a child chasing a butterfly,
with naked and empty hands.
My little monarch
has just flown above and into
what would be a mighty fine netting distance.

I'll be quite alright,
fingering the cities beneath and between
the blades of Kentucky blue grass.
I'll watch you flutter on your merry way

and enjoy the midday sun.

I'm not sure why, but it wouldn't allow me to separate some of the poems, I tried editing it-- but it still smushes everything together. Apologies-

EDIT: HA! I beat the system by adding in some hyphons, sorry if it looks odd.

~ Gosh, Viking, with arms like yours, you could catch and elephant falling off of a cliff!!!

It was a pleasure to read them all in one post! Sorry to see the Sadie Series end.

Yo Paul,

This is a good stream of consciousness poem.

My first book was written that way.  It's a good way to write.

I, too, will be sorry to see Sadie go, but will anxiously await your next feats of talent...and I might be bold enough to add...it is her loss.

sorry to hear that you will retire this for a while...I, for one, was drawn in by the Antiquarian Bookseller...stayed (and very glad I did)...perhaps your muse will demand you continue on...will be watching...

...thank you for sharing...

Thanks everybody- I'm sure she'll resurface in my poems. She has a tendency to do that.

Hopefully things work out in a wonderful way between us, you never know.

With that introduction of fine explanation and the beautiful poems that followed you sure ended the series with your best heartfelt thoughts and hopes.

Well done, whether this is a reality or not it's very good work!

It's all real, my man.

Thanks very much, it's a bit hard to let the series go.
