There is a stillness on the lawn,
Ensconcing earth in soothing balm
That only comes with day's begone.

Comes vespertine, comes evening's calm,
Falls soft the night from heav'ns above
Ensconcing earth in soothing balm.

Like cooing of the mourning dove,
As 'cross land's scape dark shadows lengthen,
Falls soft the night from heav'ns above.

In warm glow of Luna's strengthen,
Comes splendor of night's welkin grace,
As 'cross land's scape dark shadows lengthen.

As man and beast come face to face
With jeweled firmament of heaven's vault,
Comes splendor of night's welkin grace.

While stars shine bright in night's exalt,
There is a stillness on the lawn,
With jeweled firmament of heaven's vault,
That only comes with day's begone.

Nice poetic reflections. A nice soothing read. The last verse brings it on home.

That vespertine is serpentine in the way it entraps the soul with it's incoming magic.

this is a beautiful write...and I just love 'archaic' words.  Had to look up 'welkin', but you use it so well...nice craftsmanship...very nice
