.

So now
We know

It doesn’t seem
All that long ago
We’d pass one another
Hardly with a smile

Perhaps
We became
A little too close
Learning of each
A little too much
As made this kiss
Inevitable despite
It all

I no more
Than you
Have any idea
What tomorrow
Will bring except

It’s impossible
To put the apple
Back on the tree

.

I like this piece very much, John.
That ending is superb.

Sometimes the closer you get, the more you wish you hadn't.  But you can't know that til you do, so it's still a positive.  I like the phrasing in this one.
