Our Own Man of La Mancha

What woman does not yet see
this image of you, still in me
through the eye of blind I feel
with touch of finger, you, so real

My conqueror of love, my fighter, true,
now gone your ways alone, have you,
without your mother as your guide,
but with your Sancho, you did ride…

the man you were, I saw in dream
when as a child, you played in stream
you hefted rock, clasped hands in prayer
a man of words, a poet, rare

as sunlight filtered all your schemes
the roads oft taken were not serene
you stumbled, but you never fell
you gathered thoughts on which to dwell

the softer side you show to friends,
and wisdom? Ah, that you blend
with the mother I have left in you,
and for this, I enjoy my view…

~*~

Dedicated...
to Sy...
with great respect...
for his dreams
have led me to visions
of my own...

I miss you.

Karilea, this is beautiful. I miss Sy, very much, too.

P.S. Did you get the email I sent you, this morning.

Yo Sunshine,

Sy was a nice guy.  You have to remember that in a man, or woman.

They are really somewhat rare.

Aw yes, Sy he was such a clever witty daily writer and everyone enjoyed his kind winsome comments and creations.

Yes yes, he was definitely a class act.

This is a delightful tribute well perceived.

I can't claim to say that I knew Sy; I can only wish that I had known him.  I saw his kindness and felt it in his replies to my poetic attempts.  I saw it in how he responded to all here - and I continue to see it in the love that many have for him still.

I like this poem - I think it's very fitting for the man that I saw here in the poems and pictures that he and all of you have shared.

Beautiful, dear Karilea! I loved Seymour and his daily offerings, which always taught me something new. Beyond his art, I felt his gentleness and wisdom. True gifts. I do miss him.

Thank you for this.

Love,
Margherita
