Mom decides
she’s sick of Philadelphia.

She decides
they should try out
Quebec City.

Somewhere along the line,
Mom had learned
to speak French.

Mom drags Bones
to the train station,
and they head up north—
up north past
the Laurentian Highlands,
to the great,
grand,
city of Quebec.

Mom has already arranged
for a house to work out of,
up near the Château De Frontenac.

The manager of the house
welcomed them.

He took one look at Bones,
and told Mom he could mold Bones
into a great man some day,
here in Quebec City.

All Bones had to do
was learn French.

Mom and Bones took
a walking tour of the city,
all over the Plains of Abraham,
death place of Brave Montcalm
and Wolfe,
and all through the narrow streets.

Over breakfast,
Mom asked Bones
if he’d like to live
in Quebec City.

He lied,
and said yes.

During breakfast,
Bones got up from the table,
and went outside.

Mom came out
and found him
sitting on the curb,
he was crying.

Mom asked Bones
what was the problem.

Bones told Mom
he was homesick
for the English language,

he wanted to go back home
to Philadelphia.

Bones was the only thing
Mom had in the world.
She agreed to go back
to Philadelphia.

They went and told
the house proprietor
that they were going home.

He was very upset at this.

He yelled at Mom,
and told Bones he was nothing
but a little tramp.

Bones and Mom marched

right out of there,
down the hill,
and back on the train.

Bones always felt bad about that,
for being such a little coward.
Mom really did want
to stay in Quebec.

Bones got over it.

Aw well, Bones got over it and Mom got over it and all are happier in the end.

Thanks for the continuing saga of Bones.

Bobby, you wrote so descriptively that I can see it all playing out in my mind's eye. You also made me feel what poor Bone's was feeling ~ like a little fish out of water.

~ I enjoyed the tour of that fine historical city!

Thanks Eric,

That reminds me of a joke a friend from Mexico told me.

"What do you call a person that speaks two languages?"

"Bilinguel"

"and a person that speaks three languages?"

"Trilinguel"

"and a person that speaks one language?

"American"--U. S. type.

Thanks dear Linda,

Yes, that's the way it was.

I've taken my children to Quebec four times since then.  One for each kid.  They liked the place.

Thanks dear Owl,

Yes, there's no place like home, even if it is all in the head.

Thanks Yann,

Yes, English is a terrific language.  It's made up of so many influences, and keeps growing.  It's a living language.

Thanks dear Ida,

You are so correct.  Home is where the hat is.

Now where have I heard that before.
