In This Day

Today I do not dance,
nor am I eagle in this day;
my spirit does not soar so high
the sky itself lies spread below,
foresoftened by the down of air.
And the drums, the drums,
their loud and mourning call
is called for others in this day;
no circled wailing moves me,
nor the rhythm of the dance.

For me this day, a lone flute sighing
far out in some fissure of the rim,
a song made all of grace-notes
and the falling leaves of memory,
called back in single echoes
from a distant canyon wall,
their sibilance that fades, fades,
until at last they have become
the heartsound  of the whispering wind.

Beautiful poetry and flow of feelings for a fellow poet.
I can hear "a lone flute sighing"
in "the heartsound of the whispering wind"

Thank you, Ed.

I don't think any of us are dancing this week... but I'm so glad she got to hear this.

Ed, I knew I could count on you to write something for Marge; however, I never expected it to be so beautiful and so touching. I love all your words, but this his by far one of the best and brightest.

She was such a dear friend and I know her legacy will live on here at PiP. Thank you for such a memorable write.

Always, the tremendous surge of poetry comes through your pen... and here the "falling leaves of memory" ascend in rhythms of solitude missing a friend.

How lovely the nature of this is.  ~ Karen

Ed it was difficult for me to quote my favourite lines, as they all quotable. However, the following lines I felt thrumming in my chest and they continue to do so as I am keying my reply.

~ "And the drums, the drums,
their loud and mourning call"

You are a fine poet with a compassionate heart.

It's amazing how our hearts can write something so beautiful out of something so sad........That's how we console ourselves and our dearest friends I guess.

This is excellent!

I can hear the lonely cry of the pan flute floating on the wind in gentle whispers.
Lovely.
