For my hero, Maddi…

I miss you in my belly
You know I miss it all—
To catch you when you stumble
To kiss you when you fall

I miss the cuts that I could clean
I’d take away the pain—
I’d kiss the tears right off your cheeks
I’d wrap my baby’s sprain

But now you’ve grown and now you fight
In a war beyond your years
Still, you kiss me, and you hold me
And work to quench my fears

I lay awake sometimes at night
And listen to you sleep
I’d kill to help you carry this
But all I do is weep

I was always looking out for you
Now you look out for me
You place the vision in my eyes
When it’s hard for me to see

Every day, a challenge new
But you look never better
You are my one, my all in all
And so I write this letter

You’re the best I’ve ever known
You have been from the start
So little can I give to you—
But I give you all my heart

You have courage and you’re strong
You’re what I want to be—
There was a time I carried you
But now you’re holding me…

I love you.

Awww this is so Beautiful
It is a fitting tribute to a child, and i do understand this being a mother of three grown up children,
The flow is excellent and the sentiment is so touching very well penned...

Charles,

This is a very special poem that seems to have been overlooked.  Maddi sounds pretty special.

Welcome to PiP and thank you for sharing.

It's a wonderful thing, when the fruit of us become the hero not only for us, but for others. Kiss this child for me, too.

Wow,  What a beautiful tribute to your child. I  am somewhat confused as it sounds as though it is a womans perspective,(Charles?)which is perfectly fine as I have written as a different gender before to make the point.
I hope he/she (Maddi) is as proud of you as you are of him/her.

Nice write.  WT.

Yes, it is written from a woman's voice and yes, I am a man.
I have never met Maddi... she is the daughter of a friend who has a brain tumor and they dont know what to expect.  I almost cried as her mom relayed to me the story.. and i felt compelled to write to her, though we had never met.  May never meet.. and i hadnt written in such a long time.. thanks for the feedback..
