           January Twilight

Beneath an ice-hard sky
and naked moon rising,
a wild winter wind blowing cold,
(from the pristine snowy wilderness)
swirls around a broken bell and
   fallen temple,
to sweep away the last forlorn
footsteps of some wayward wanderer
and the deep-shadow memories
of all that has been lost forever
beyond time’s far horizon…

I know of no other poet who can weave such
melancholy thoughts into such beautiful verse, Bruce.
